One wing, two aircraft weights

2,550 lb divided by 170 ft² of wing area gives 15 lb/ft². At 2,200 lb with the same area, loading falls to about 12.94 lb/ft².

Wing loading is a comparison metric. Stall speed also depends on maximum lift coefficient, configuration and air density, so loading alone is insufficient.

Formula and method

Wing loading = aircraft weight ÷ wing area.
