Route Planner

Enter a route. Set aircraft values and departure. Review the navlog and weather.

Charts, METARs, radar and navlog are free. Pro adds route briefing and advanced weather overlays.

  1. 1. Enter route
  2. 2. Set aircraft values and departure
  3. 3. Review navlog and weather

Flight plan

Enter at least two characters. Select a result to add it to the route.

Import a route

Paste identifiers with DCT separators, or import PilotDesk flight JSON. Coordinates use Name, lat, lon. Airways and procedures are resolved by the planner.

Import replaces the working plan. Saved flights stay available.

    Insert a stop

Select a route leg, then drag its + handle to add a manual point. Right-click also inserts a point.

    Aircraft & planning values

Enter at least two waypoints. Airport/NAVAID/fix resolution uses current AWC navigation-feature data when available.

    Saved routes

    Saved routes

    Loading FAA chart…

Chart imagery: Federal Aviation Administration, Aeronautical Information Services. TAC coverage exists only where a TAC is published. Download a bounded chart area in Offline flight packs before losing connectivity. FAA chart products ↗

    Navlog

Select a leg to highlight it and drag its + handle to add a waypoint.

    No route built yet.

Set TAS, burn and wind by leg

Blank fields use the route-wide values above. Manual winds override any applied forecast. Winds are in degrees true; METAR winds are not used. Moving a waypoint removes the overrides for its changed legs.

    Build a route first.

    Fuel & departure

Enter usable fuel and your planning allowances. Reserve minutes are your choice; this does not check regulatory fuel requirements. Trip fuel uses the selected navlog model.

Build a route and enter reserve minutes to calculate the fuel plan.

    Departure review

AWC weather, route advisories and FAA TFRs load automatically after a route and UTC departure are set. Enter cruise altitude to apply forecast winds to time and fuel.

Set a route and UTC departure. The review loads automatically; cruise altitude enables forecast winds.

    Import NOTAMs

Paste original notices separated by blank lines, or FAA/PilotDesk JSON with effectiveStart and effectiveEnd. Unknown times stay visible for manual review. Imports do not establish complete coverage.

Airport forecasts cover the terminal area. Notices are compared with time only; schedules, altitude, applicability and route legality need review. Official briefing

    Offline flight packs

Build a route, zoom to the chart area you need, then download it. The pack includes this planner, resolved route, aircraft planning inputs, selected FAA procedure PDFs and chart tiles within the visible bounds. Maximum 800 tiles / 100 MB. An incomplete download is discarded. Browser storage can be evicted; reopen the pack offline before departure to verify it. Navigation expires with its FAA edition; chart imagery expires no later than seven days after capture and requires printed edition verification.

Download while connected. Weather and briefing APIs are never stored as current offline data.

    FAA routing & procedure segments

Enter FIX V123 FIX to expand an airway, or DCT between fixes. Navigation uses the FAA CIFP edition covering your UTC departure. Airway expansion shows published fixes; verify chart altitude, restrictions, NOTAMs and clearance.

Build a route to check the navigation edition.

Segments are separate runway, common or enroute branches, not an assembled clearance. Automatic insertion supports IF/TF/DF fixes only, requires a matching join, and excludes missed approaches. Published constraints remain chart requirements.

    Climb, cruise & descent

Enter average performance from your aircraft documentation for the planned weight, altitude and temperature. These rates stay constant; this is not a POH chart solver. Route and leg TAS/burn inputs apply to cruise. Each leg wind applies to all three phases.

    Aircraft POH performance table

Enter verified aircraft data as JSON rows. Columns: pressureAltitude (ft), oat (°C), weight (lb), cruiseTas, cruiseBurn, climbTas, climbBurn, climbRate, descentTas, descentBurn, descentRate. Speeds are TAS kt, burns US gal/hr and rates ft/min. Use one configuration. Linear interpolation requires every surrounding table corner; no extrapolation. Climb/descent use 500 ft midpoint bands. Enter the pressure altitude offset and atmospheric temperature lapse explicitly; weight remains constant. Leg cruise overrides still take precedence.

    Forecast winds aloft

AWC/NWS forecast for the contiguous United States. Uses the station nearest each leg midpoint (within 200 NM) and interpolates wind vectors between altitude levels. Requires cruise altitude and UTC departure. Light/variable winds are treated as calm. No terrain or horizontal weather interpolation.

No forecast winds applied. Entered winds are used.

    Terminal procedures

Current FAA d-TPP links for the departure and destination are loaded after a route is built.

    How the navlog is calculated

Leg distance and initial true course use great-circle geometry. Wind correction solves the wind triangle from true course, TAS, wind direction, and wind speed. Magnetic heading applies the user-entered variation. ETE is leg distance divided by groundspeed, and fuel is time multiplied by the entered hourly burn.

Surface METAR wind is shown for airport context only. It is not used for the enroute wind calculation. The chart background comes from FAA AIS public raster tile services, with selectable VFR and IFR layers; coverage depends on the published chart products and requires connectivity. Airport, NAVAID, and fix search adds available points to a route, and supported airport endpoints can show current METAR context. The navlog calculates great-circle leg distance/course, wind-corrected heading and groundspeed from the wind you enter, ETE, and estimated fuel. Saved routes can be reopened where available. Terminal-procedure links are current FAA d-TPP documents and remain FAA-hosted PDFs.
