CFII Checkride Prep
Practice teaching an IFR flight from clearance through the approach and missed approach. Include weather changes, equipment failures, and how the learner checks a procedure.
Prepare an IFR lesson.
CFII subjects to review
- Instrument privileges, currency, IPCs, instructor privileges, endorsements, and recordkeeping that apply to the lesson.
- Instrument scan, attitude control, trim, spatial disorientation, and the errors that show up when workload rises.
- IFR weather, icing, convection, alternates, fuel, and how to teach a real go/change-the-plan decision.
- Navigation equipment and automation: source selection, modes, database/procedure setup, failure indications, and backups.
- Clearances, departures, enroute navigation, holding, arrivals, approaches, missed approaches, and circling when applicable.
- Partial-panel work, electrical or display failures, lost communications, automation surprises, and workload management.
Plan one IFR scenario
Pick an IFR route and make the learner plan it. Change one thing at a time: lower ceilings, stronger winds, an inoperative unit, a reroute, a hold, or a missed approach. Ask what changed, what did not, and where they would verify the answer. That exposes weak understanding much faster than another list of definitions.
Route Planner
Build the route and use it as the scenario for clearances, weather, fuel, and alternates.
Aviation Weather
Use current conditions as the start of a weather discussion, then verify the full briefing from official sources.
Procedures
Open current FAA procedure material for approach and departure teaching.
CFII Oral Guide
Eight short subjects to explain and verify before the practical test.
FAA references
Use the current FAA practical-test standards, current 14 CFR, the AIM, the Instrument Flying Handbook, the Aviation Instructor’s Handbook, and the exact aircraft and avionics documents. Check current procedure charts and weather reports before each lesson.
Use the current FAA standard, regulations, AIM, handbook, charts, and aircraft documents when preparing a lesson.
