Commercial Pilot Checkride Prep

Review commercial privileges and limitations alongside the flight maneuvers. Be ready to explain the performance numbers and operating rules that apply to the airplane and flight.

STUDY AND PRACTICE

Choose what to review

Commercial Pilot ACS topics

The FAA lists Commercial Pilot for Airplane Category ACS FAA-S-ACS-7B. It expects you to bring private-pilot knowledge forward, apply stronger judgment, understand commercial privileges and limitations, and demonstrate the aircraft with much more deliberate energy management.

Subjects to review

Tools for commercial practice

Pivotal Altitude

See the groundspeed-squared relationship, then remember that changing wind changes groundspeed and therefore pivotal altitude.

Maneuvering Speed at Weight

Review the square-root weight relationship only where it is appropriate; published aircraft data controls.

Bank Angle Load Factor

Connect bank angle, load factor, and accelerated stall speed.

Glide Distance

Practice glide geometry while keeping wind, turns, terrain, and aircraft-specific data in the discussion.

Pilot Checkride Math

Review the common relationships you should be able to explain without treating the calculator as the source of truth.

Oral-review prompts

Could you take money for this flight, and under what authority? Why does pivotal altitude move when groundspeed changes? What happens to stall speed as load factor rises? What aircraft-specific numbers would you verify before attempting a short-field departure on a hot day? If the engine quits during a power-off accuracy approach, what part of the maneuver suddenly stops being a checkride exercise?
